Feature Flavor: Matcha Tea + Honey Shortbread

You may have had a matcha latte, or even matcha ice cream, but now this form of green tea is inspiring our newest Flour & Oats cookie.  Matcha is the latest craze in the food scene, and for good reason. Not only does it taste delicious, but it has been used in Japan for the past 1000 years for its many health benefits.

Matcha

What exactly can this ancient green tea do for you? Here are just a few of the medicinal and mental benefits of matcha:

  • Antioxidants - Matcha contains the highest known source of antioxidants per gram and helps prevent breast cancer, heart disease, inflammation, and cartilage breakdown.
  • Detoxifying - Matcha brings high levels of oxygen to the body and tissues, to help detoxify and balance the pH in your body.
  • Fat Burner - Those same antioxidants that help prevent breast cancer also raise the rate at which your body burns calories. This speeds up your metabolism and helps you burn more fat.
  • Focus - Matcha is grown in the shade, which builds up the content of an amino acid that creates more alpha brain waves - which contribute to calmness, relaxation, alertness, and memory.
  • Energy Booster - Matcha only contains 1/2 the caffeine of coffee, but this caffeine combined with Matcha's other properties results in a long-lasting energy boost with no jitters or or mid-day crash.
